Crescendo is the second book from Hush, Hush series written by Becca Fitzpatrick.
Description[]
Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it. A mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever (if that's possible) and what's worse, he seems to be spending time with Nora's archenemy, Marcie Millar.
Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadn't been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude, Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feelings that he is hiding something.
If that weren't enough, Nora is haunted by images of her murdered father, and comes to question whether her Nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death. Desperate to figure out what happened, she puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations to get the answer. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts
Summary[]
The book starts off with Nora Grey falling in love with Patch Cipriano, but given his sudden escape in one of their love encounters right after she confessed her love, Nora begins to doubt Patch feels the same towards her.
Her doubts grow bigger when she finds out that when Patch ran, he went to the house of Nora's enemy, Marcie Millar. Nora starts to think that Patch might just see her as another girl to woo, and since he has already done it, he's moved on to the next girl.
After this, Nora realizes that Patch is behaving strangely, since he never calls her and is around Marcie Millar all the time. At one point, Nora is sure that between Marcie and Patch there is something more than friendship, and even goes into Marcie's room in search of her diary, to confirm her doubts about the two, although she does not dare to read it. Marcie realizes that Nora has her diary, and begins to tell her some things that Nora did not expect such as her mother having an affair with Marcie's dad.
Nora finally decides to forget about Patch, but he is still there, everywhere she looks she is reminded of him and occasionally encounters him too. An old friend of Nora's, Scott Parnell, arrives in town, he is a very handsome young man, but at the same time very strange and reserved. Nora flirts numerous times with Scott in front of Patch to make him feel the same jealousy she feels when he's with Marcie (even though she doesn't feel good doing it).
At a party at Scott's apartment, Scott and Nora kiss and then go to his bedroom. Patch intervenes interrupting their intimate moment, he's very angry and threatens to harm Scott if he touches Nora again.
Vee Sky, Nora's friend, is dating Patch's best friend, Rixon, who although seems like a very good guy, in the end he turns out to be bad, because he is the one who has always wanted to kill Nora so he could acquire a human body.
It is also discovered that Nora is the daughter of Hank Millar, Marcie's father, which makes Marcie Nora's half-sister. Hank is a very powerful nephil who is Rixon's vassal, and as her daughter, Rixon needs Nora for the sacrifice.
Scott turns out to be a nephilim who was marked by the Black Hand (which at the end of the book is revealed to be Hank Millar) to help create an army of nephilim against the fallen angels. Scott at first didn't know what he was, he knew what he could do with his mind, but he had no idea that there were more people like him, he didn't know anything about his species. He only knew that the Black Hand branded him, gave him a ring that Nora steals, and that Scott, with great fear, longs to recover above all else.
Patch was after Marcie Millar because the archangels found out about his relationship with Nora and changed his protƩgƩ. Being a daughter of Hank Millar, Marcie was also in danger, so Patch must protect her, even if he doesn't want to. But none of this prevents him from finding out about everything that happens around Nora, his true love; when he discovers that his best friend Rixon is after her to kill her, he chains him up in hell.
Nora learns that she can trust Scott, but that he must run away and hide, because he is a deserter from the Black Hand's army, and if he finds him, he will kill him.
The book ends with Patch and Nora in Delphic Park, kissing tenderly. But that sweetness is cut short when Hank Millar, along with more Nephilim, break into Delphic Park and kidnap Nora, leaving Patch unable to do anything to save her.
